Mission of Georgian Rural Council

Mission PNG ClipartThe mission of GRC is the increasing the involvement of the rural population in the decision making process and raising the civic awareness, protection of their interests, improving socio-economic status and sustainable development of rural areas.

For the implementation of this mission planed the close cooperation with the civic and governmental structures, private sector of local and central as well as  international levels.  


 

 

Citizen’s Guides for Lanchkhuti and Khashuri Municipalities

sityzenCitizens of Georgia manage matters of local importance through local self-government, in accordance with Georgian legislation (Constitution of Georgia, Article 7). According to the Local Self-Government Code, local self-government is the right and opportunity of Georgian citizens to resolve issues of local importance through local government bodies, within the framework of Georgian legislation and in line with the interests of the local population (Article 2). Thus, by law, every citizen has the right and opportunity to engage in the decision-making process for issues vital to their city, town, community, village, or neighborhood, and to demand problem-solving and the delivery of municipal services from their elected local government.

One of the primary instruments for exercising this authority is the local budget. The government of a self-governing unit independently decides on local budget spending, taking into account the needs of the local population.

Project Ideas Selected

winnerThe electronic voting process for project ideas submitted by the public for funding under the Georgian Rural Council’s project, “Civic Monitoring for the Improvement of Municipal Services in Lanchkhuti and Chokhatauri,” has been completed. Based on public demand and in accordance with participatory budgeting rules, two activities in Lanchkhuti and two activities in Chokhatauri will be implemented with project funding, each worth 5,500 GEL.

The project is implemented with the support of the European Union (EU) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). The Georgian Rural Council is fully responsible for the content of the research, which may not necessarily reflect the views of the European Union or the UNDP.

Winning Projects:

  • Lanchkhuti: Purchase of mini containers for recreational spaces.

  • Lanchkhuti: Purchase of artist easels and folk instruments for artistic activities.

  • Chokhatauri: Establishment of a modern technology space in Jvarcma village.

  • Chokhatauri: Children’s Mini Amusement Ride in Guturi Village


     

Public Satisfaction Survey – Lanchkhuti & Chokhatauri Municipal Services

The Georgian Rural Council is implementing the project “Civil Monitoring for the Improvement of Municipal Services in Lanchkhuti and Chokhatauri,” funded by the European Union (EU) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

As part of the project, we conducted a public satisfaction survey on the performance of selected municipal N(N)LEs (Non-Entrepreneurial, Non-Commercial Legal Entities). The survey results and recommendations have been shared with local governments and municipal institutions to help improve future services.
